House of Brows by Shanda

I decided some time ago I wanted to feature a few of my favorite Chicagoan’s that are “doing their own thang” here and there and I am beyond excited to share with you my first one Shanda owner of House of Brows! I met Shanda a few years ago at our favorite brunch home Red Door we would toast and laugh damn near each and every Sunday not knowing at all what each other did we only knew we were both fun and our similar love for brunch! 🙂 Fast forward our fav spot is no more and Shanda decides to leave her corp brow gig and do her own thing! I had to try her out! I also had to get a lil bit of a scoop for you guys so that you could have a bit of a background on Shanda!

What made you start doing brows?

I started doing brows because someone told me they thought I’d be good at it. I first thought to myself, “How hard could it be, it’s just brows.” I was in for a huge surprise. it is very challenging and rewarding. I loved how quickly you could change someone’s face in just 30 minutes. I really enjoy getting to watch my clients brows grow into the right shape, and love being a part of their life. It’s so fun to watch some one graduate school, start a career, start a family etc.

How long have you been doing brows?

I started waxing with Anastasia Beverly Hills in 2011, first in Nordstrom Oakbrook and most recently at Nordstrom Michigan Avenue.

What made you want to take the leap and decide to become an independent brow expert?

I really enjoyed and valued my time and experience at Nordstrom. I’ve always had the desire to work for myself and add my own perspective on the brow business. Having the freedom to do what I love, and be able to balance time with loved ones was also an added bonus to make me step out on my own!

What do you LOVE about Chicago?

The things I love most about Chicago are its people. Although I am a transplant I’ve made some lifelong friendships and clientships. Chicago is a city like no other, amazing food, views, nightlife, art, history. We have a very unique culture created by the amazing people of this city! There is something for everyone and I’m so proud and grateful to own a small business here!

Step 1. Measure and determine bone structure and face shape

Step 2. Apply tint

Step 3. Shape, wax, tweeze and trim.

Step 4. Define and highlight!
